What is a micro:bit Champion?

A micro:bit Champion helps remove barriers to learning digital skills by using the micro:bit. They do this by building and supporting communities of educators and other micro:bit enthusiasts. A Champion works in collaboration with the Foundation, aligning with our values and joining our mission to inspire every child to create their best digital future.

Who should apply?

The Champions cohort is primarily comprised of teachers and school leaders. You may be a good fit if you are someone who is one or more of the following:

  • has experience using the micro:bit to inspire and engage others
  • has the passion and drive to spread the use of the micro:bit in your local community and beyond
  • can follow the Foundation's Code of Conduct and represent the Foundation in your local community
  • is willing to present at conferences, run workshops, or deliver training on how to use the micro:bit
  • is already, or is willing to become, a key influencer in their local community for physical computing, coding, and digital skills

What do Champions do?

  • Attend an orientation to meet other micro:bit Champions
  • Attend 5 global meetups
  • Attend 6 regional meetups
  • Host or contribute to at least 3 micro:bit workshops, presentations, or events between April and December 2024
  • Report micro:bit-related activities to the Foundation quarterly
  • Participate in surveys from the Foundation

What do Champions receive?

  • Presentation kit to host your own webinars and workshops with educators
  • Invitation to virtual meet ups with members of the Micro:bit Educational Foundation
  • Mentorship from fellow Champions, many of whom are experts in the field

What do micro:bit Champions do?

Attend virtual meet ups with the Micro:bit Educational Foundation and stay up-to-date in your micro:bit knowledge. Engage with your community and help students and educators in your area to learn with the micro:bit. You'll have opportunities to work with other micro:bit Champions for special events and directly with the Micro:bit Educational Foundation team.

What is the presentation kit and training that I will receive if I am selected as a micro:bit Champion?

The presentation kit includes a slide deck, talking points, and guidelines for using the micro:bit brand. You will receive training so that you feel confident teaching others about micro:bit and the free resources available for their classrooms.

How long will I be a micro:bit Champion?

If you are selected, you will be a micro:bit Champion from March 2024 - December 2024.

Will micro:bit Champions resources be available in languages other than English?

Yes. Our micro:bit Champion Community Leads will be able to assist in providing resources in Japanese, Malay, Portuguese, and Spanish. Live audio translation will be available during orientation and virtual meetups. We continue to grow the translations available in the micro:bit Champions program each year. Is there a cost for the program?

There is no cost, but you do need to submit an application. Not everyone who applies will be selected.

Community Leads

Community Leads have completed at least one year in the micro:bit Champions program and commit to volunteering their time as a local leader for a two year term. Applications are provided to returning Champions at the start of each new cohort.
